i use a canon rebel T1i and a 28mm vivitar m42 screw mount lens (:
my camera body is only a few years old by all of my lenses are from the 70s. its a pretty interesting setup. my photography instructor who has shot for arizona highways for 20 years had trouble working it.

I see, any issues mounting old lens on the T1i?

well, i got an m42 screw mount to canon adapter. you can get them for under ten bucks most of the time on ebay. other than that there arent any problems other than that everything has to be manual focus.
as for lenses, i recommend any m42s. they're older and heavier, but MUCH cheaper. you can normally find one easy peasy for under 60 bucks online. they do the exact same thing that normal $400 canon lenses do, so its much more economically wise

and as for focal length, it just depends on what you have plans on taking photos of.
